Components for complete charging systems

Flowmeters

The flow or flowmeter is installed in-line and accurately measures the displaced volume. Together with the flow computer, it forms the heart of the measuring line. Correct sizing is essential and depends on the application (such as blending, batching or inventory management), the working flow rate and the pressure. Depending on the liquid, different types are available, such as PD, turbine, mass flow or ultrasonic meters.

Flowcomputers

The flow computer is the brain of the measurement line. Based on input from flow and temperature meters, it controls the control valve, making the loading process precise and controlled. Both the Smith Accuload IV and the compact Microload are suitable for a variety of applications, from multiple loading arms to inline blending.

Degasser

The degasser removes air and gases from petrochemical liquids so that only liquid product is measured. Because liquid meters must operate gas-free, this is an essential component in any measurement line. Gas bubbles can otherwise cause erroneous readings and, at high pressures, cause damage through cavitation.

Top loading arms

Top loading arms are widely used for loading petrochemical products, and are also suitable for the chemical and food industries thanks to their material selection and sealing. They are controlled pneumatically or hydropneumatically and can be equipped with swivel joints for greater reach and ease of use. Optional vapor recovery is available to reduce emissions and increase safety.

Bottom loading arms

When loading flammable liquids, buildup of static electricity is a significant risk. Certified grounding devices provide safe discharge and prevent sparking. They can be used for tankers, railcars and ships, and can be combined with overfill protection.

What is MID and when should my measurement system comply with it?

The MID (Measuring Instruments Directive) is a European directive that stipulates that measuring devices, such as volume meters in loading bays, must be legally inspected in commercial transactions. Any measurement system that serves as a basis for billing must therefore be MID-compliant.

What exactly does the annual inspection entail?

Every MID measuring system must be inspected annually for accuracy, leak tightness and correct operation. This inspection is done by an approved body and is mandatory for all operational installations in a commercial context.
